“Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I’m sixty-four?”

Ironically, no. Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his wife Heather Mills are to separate after four years of marriage, the couple confirmed Wednesday.

In a joint statement they said they had tried “exceptionally hard” to make their relationship work, but “given the daily pressures surrounding us, it is with sadness that we have decided to go our separate ways.”

The couple met in 1999 through Mills’ work for her land mine charity, which was launched after the former model lost a leg in a motorbike accident in 1993.

They married in June 2002, four years after Sir Paul’s former wife Linda McCartney died of breast cancer, and had a daughter — Beatrice Milly — in October 2003.
