Ever wonder how air guitar competitions are judged?
According to the Entertainment Industry Incubator, a group that’s hosting the May 24th Miami Air Guitar Regionals at Miami’s Studio A:
Air guitar is part karaoke, part performance art, all rocking out… it allows anyone with - or without - talent to momentarily feel like a Rock God! Mastery of air guitar can be traced to three elements:
- Technical merit - You don’t have to know what notes you’re playing, but the more your invisible fretwork corresponds to the music, the better your performance.
- Stage Presence - Anyone can do it in the privacy of their bedroom. Few have what it takes to rock a crowd of hundreds or even thousands - all without an instrument.
- Airness - Airness is defined as “the extent to which a performance transcends the imitation of a real guitar and becomes an art form in and of itself.”
That “airness” one has us scratching our heads a little….
Miami is joining cities like Asheville, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Phoenix, San Francisco and New York to help select a regional winner. That person will be sent to the fourth annual US Air Guitar Championship to be held June 22 in New York.
The winner of the US National Air Guitar Championship will be sent to Oula, Finnland to represent the United States at the 11th annual World Air Guitar Championships.
