This week, nothing beats the oddness of this eBay auction of costumes from The Residents’ Wormwood world tour.

If you’re not familiar with The Residents, they are a sort of avant garde performance art group that’s released over fifty albums over the last 35 years, created films and videos, CD-ROMs, DVD’s and toured the world. They always perform in costume, and have never revealed their identities.

The eBay auction is for costumes worn during the group’s performances of Wormwood, a music work based on the Bible.
Auction description:

With the exception of the masks and a few props, almost all of the costumes and props from the WORMWOOD shows will be included in this auction. All costumes are black light reactive and can be worn for nearly any occasion: weddings, bar mitzvahs, graduations, baptisms, birthdays or even HUMAN SACRIFICES!

While Wormwood may not appear especially wholesome, it’s clear that the Resident’s performances provided a musical and visual take on the stories of the Bible.
