Apple laptop burnsApple is apparently quietly dealing with the problem of hot and burning Apple laptops by updating its site to remove the term “laptop”.

Officially, MacBooks are not laptops. According to the user manual:

“Do not leave the botton of your MacBook in contact with your lap or any other surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn.”

They aren’t just covering their assets, either. A recent posting to the Apple forum shows an example of Apple laptop burns.

In case their advertising graphics, gave people any ideas, Apple is updating its site to remove confusion:

It’s a Laptop!
Laptop on your lap

It’s for use anywhere!

Anywhere - but your lap

It looks like now it’s OK to use Mac laptops anywhere you want….except your lap.

In the late 90’s I worked for SONY and supported their VAIO computers. We were instructed (for legal reasons) to never use the term LAPTOP and instead use the term NOTEBOOK.

It was due to this very same issue – heat.
