Today, we’re bringing you a special religious controversy edition of WTF Friday: The Passion of the Jesus Guitar.
At the Warrior Guitar NAMM booth, we saw the face of Jesus on a guitar. At least, we saw the northern European, vaguely hippyish view of how he might have looked.
The craftsmanship on this guitar is impressive. Its body is made of flame maple, purple heart and vintage mahogany. The top is sculpted maple. The guitar also features figured mahogany, gaboon ebony, koa and gold hardware.
As regular readers know, Pope Benedict XVI has called for an end to electric guitars and modern music being played in church and is demanding a return to traditional choirs and Gregorian chants.
So, when we saw the amazing artistry and care for detail that went into making Warrior’s The Crown of Thorns guitar, we suspected that it might pose a conundrum to the former Cardinal Ratzinger.
What would be more profane - to have somebody using a guitar like this in church, or playing Highway to Hell on it?
Here’s more information on The Crown of Thorns guitar, from Warrior:

History celebrates heroes who have laid down their life for their friends. Every war produces men of unequalled bravery and courage in paying the ultimate price for the safety and future of others. These men are remembered and honored as examples for the rest of us.
The Crown of Thorns Is the latest in our Collectable Art series, demonstrating the consummate price being paid for humanity. Jesus laying down His life for His friends.
Recently at the Nashville NAMM this instrument was a show stopper. Crowds gathered to stare at this instrument. Often speechless, but always moved. Drawn by its incredible beauty, changed by it’s unmistakable message.
Once again Warrior has created collectable art that demonstrates the craftsman’s gift and the artisans flair to make the wood live again, and the love of a Father.
When displayed in its custom crafted motif, you will witness stunning beauty, and uncommon excellence that will provoke conversation, contemplation and an unforgettable memory in your friends and family.
