Did Owen Wilson rip off Steely Dan with his latest movie, You, Me and Dupree?
Steely Dan seems to think so. They’ve written Luke Wilson an unusual letter, suggesting that Owen Wilson’s new flick is a rip off of their song, Cousin Dupree.
You, Me and Dupree is about a newlywed couple, Carl and Molly Peterson, that let Carl’s best friend, Randy Dupree, stay at their house after Dupree loses his job. Their friend overstays his welcome and comedy ensues.
Cousin Dupree is about a slacker hitting on his cousin:
Here’s Well I’ve kicked around a lot since high school
I’ve worked a lot of nowhere gigs
From keyboard man in a rock’n ska band
To haulin’ boss crude in the big rigsNow I’ve come back home to plan my next move
From the comfort of my Aunt Faye’s couch
When I see my little cousin Janine walk in
All I could say was ow ow ouchCHORUS:
Honey how you’ve grown
Like a rose
Well we used to play
When we were three
How about a kiss for your cousin Dupree
Steely Dan may not have a case, but they have an interesting letter…..
