It was billed as the biggest music festival of its kind in India — a four-day “psychedelic trance” party in the middle of the desert in Rajasthan.

But the inaugural Moondust Festival has been shut down early. The Times of India attributes the shutdown to a sex overdose, while India News reports that drug allegations forced the cancellation of the Rajasthan music party.

Festival organizers “guaranteed pleasure for all psychedelic music fans.”

“This magical event will showcase music, arts, dance, market, eateries, workshops, etc for full four days and four nights,” notes the Moondust Festival site. “The hospitality extended by Rajasthan shall be absolutely impeccable.”

Unfortunately for festival-goers, Rajasthan’s absolutely impecabble hospitality doesn’t seem to extend to ravers overdosing on sex, drugs and psychedelic music.

And then there’s the Dum Maro Dum.

‘They were engaged in acts, which are not acceptable to our culture. Lots of beer bottles, cigarettes and chillums are still scattered in the area which gives us an impression that it was more of a ‘Dum Maro Dum’ kind of drugs party,’ said Mahesh Meena, a resident of the area.

Local villagers allege the foreign tourists were seen engaging in indecent behaviour during the festival.

‘Norms seem to have been flouted. We have started to investigate the matter,’ said D.N. Pandey, additional district magistrate, Jaipur City North.

Organisers of the music fest have been charged with violating the excise act and playing music at 1,000 watts decibel near a forest area.
