Today, we’re bringing you a special religious controversy edition of WTF Friday: The Passion of the Jesus Guitar.
At the Warrior Guitar NAMM booth, we saw the face of Jesus on a guitar. At least, we saw the northern European, vaguely hippyish view of how he might have looked.
The craftsmanship on this guitar is impressive. Its body is made of flame maple, purple heart and vintage mahogany. The top is sculpted maple. The guitar also features figured mahogany, gaboon ebony, koa and gold hardware.
As regular readers know, Pope Benedict XVI has called for an end to electric guitars and modern music being played in church and is demanding a return to traditional choirs and Gregorian chants.
So, when we saw the amazing artistry and care for detail that went into making Warrior’s The Crown of Thorns guitar, we suspected that it might pose a conundrum to the former Cardinal Ratzinger.
What would be more profane - to have somebody using a guitar like this in church, or playing Highway to Hell on it?
