Infinite Horizon is described as a non-deterministic trance project. It’s a box that automatically generates formulaic trance music (MP3).

Trance Music Generator

From the site:

This neat little box was the culmination of my major in Computer Music at CNMA (what was then ACAT). I had demonstrated using SuperCollider that a non-deterministic sequencer was capable of creating contemporary dance music but being a full hardware artist I needed to get the system into a useable form.

The basic concept behind it is that most “classic” dance music is so formulaic it should be easy for a computer to generate. Generating all patterns and sequences from a small set of rules the unit is able to deliver new and original tracks in realtime. The orginal implementation ran autonomously but the tracks lacked the (often criticized as predictable) build up/down structure so critical in forming a flow. Rather than trying to implement such a complex concept in such a simple and elegant piece of code I decided this task should be performed by a human.

In the world of Internet video, there is a strange cult of electronic music fans that can’t seem to keep themselves from publishing their amateur techno dance videos.

We’ve collected a few of the strangest. If you continue, you will see kids dancing techno, half-naked dudes dancing techno, penguins dancing techno, batman dancing techno and even some hot babes dancing techno. And a gimp.

Traci Lords, the controversial starlet that screwed the adult film industry by starring in dozens of hardcore movies before she turned 18, has more than her share of skeletons in the closet.

One of the most surprising, though, is her album with Juno Reactor (best known for their work on the Matrix soundtracks). Together they created 1000 Fires, which actually didn’t suck. The big single from the album, Control, holds up pretty well:

Here’s another video from the release:

The lyrics are the weakpoint of the CD, but Lords’ only album manages a very respectable 4 1/2 stars at Amazon.
